Marc Vellay, Arbre de la connaissance du bien et du mal, 2018, Bronze, 400 x 260 x 90 cm
This artwork is a construction that combines two of the artist’s major preoccupations: the most recent advances in neuroscience, and man's ancient recurrent obsessions such as good and evil, mortality and sexuality. This is evidently a trunk, but one topped with a "neuronal" head of hair flowing with constant energy in a network or web. L'Arbre Neuronal was devised in specific relation to the scale of the building. It commands attention, drawing the gaze towards its crown as one approaches.
